Upper Lakes Foods Inc. was started by Lawrence R. Sorensen in 1967.
The company began in Duluth, Minnesota and moved to Cloquet, Minnesota
in 1981. ULF went from a 7-floor office & warehouse to a single story office
and warehouse facility. When ULF moved to Cloquet they had 65 employees.
The company has since grown to 375 plus employees with annual sales of
171 million. ULF is a family owned and operated company. Larry's involvement
was hands-on until his death in January of 2005. His wife, Patricia and four
children, Steve Sorensen, Susan Ryan, Scott Sorensen and Shawn Sorensen
have taken over the management of the company. They have each been involved
in the family for over 30 years working in almost all of the departments.
ULF's philosophy has not changed since its inception. Working with the customer
to make them more profitable is how they do business. Building relationships is the key.
